Workbench Leg

I'm building a new workbench. The base and top will be modeled after Chris Schwarz's Roubo, but it will be 10' long. It's going to have a twin-screw vise ala Holtzapffel. And a wagon vise ala English.

This first entry will be about rouging milling one of the legs. I'm designing for a 32" tall bench. So each leg will have 2 pieces that are 30x5x1-1/4 and 2 that are 28x5x1-1/4. The extra 2" will be the middle pieces and will form an automatic tenon upon glue up.

This first pic shows the 10-foot long, Home Depot-borne, SYP clamped to my smart table. I could have used my other smart table for additional support, but I have my lathe on that at the moment.

Here's another pic of the same cut. Unfortunately I had inadequate support on the cutoff. But the EZ rails kept everything safe as that piece dropped a little after the cut. But I did chew up the EAC's a little. I guess I'll move that lathe next time.

The lumber from the BORGs all have rounded edges. With the EZ rails, it's pretty simple cutting these off.

The rest of the ripping is just like the above. Mark for width (shooting for a 1/4" oversize), line up the rails, and rip. After it was all done, here are my 4 pieces rough milled.

And just in case the EZ crowd is wondering. Here's a pic of the squareness of the cut.
